Originally an L-shaped ranch style home, the house had a full basement with a galley kitchen. The stairs to the basement were the in the center of the home which closed off the kitchen and living room. In an effort to establish an open plan and enlarge the kitchen, we added a second floor over the existing foundation. By doing this, we were able to relocate the stairs to the front corner of the house thus opening up the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and adding a two story screened porch with a two sided fireplace to the living room.
